STAR ROOM

The Star Room is home to Northern Door Children's Center's 3 year-old Preschool Program.

A full day program is developed that focuses on "the whole child." Themes for the entire year are established and created into developmentally appropriate lessons that are age appropriate for 3 year olds and take into consideration the individual needs of each child.

There are opportunities throughout the day for exploration and teacher facilitated activities. Play is an important component of the learning program. Activities are designed to develop the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive abilities of each child. Activity/theme time happens daily (Monday through Friday) from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.

Prescholar Program

Prescholar is a program designed to meet the unique learning needs of preschool children aged 2 1/2 to 4 years old. The curriculum is balanced to develop the whole child and to offer the children many "hands on" learning experiences. The program goals and planned curriculum are based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards for 3 to 5 year old children. These standards consist of five domains including Health and Physical Development, Social and Emotional Development and Communication, Approaches to Learning and Cognition and General Knowledge. We know that 2 1/2 to four year olds learn best when they have many opportunities to actively explore and experiment. Much of the program will be play based in enriched learning centers with small groups. Prescholar is a comprehensive preschool program rooted in developmentally appropriate practice and programming.

All children who are enrolled at Northern Door Children's Center and are at least 2 1/2 years old but do not meet the September 1st eligibility date to attend NDCC's 4Learning Program are eligible to attend Prescholar.

Prescholar will be held in NDCC's Star Room five mornings per week, M-F, during the regular academic school year. The program follows the Gibraltar Area Schools school calendar and program breaks occur concurrently. Prescholar operates from 9:00a.m. to 11:30a.m. On "break days", when NDCC is open, a preschool program each academic school year. Children must be enrolled for a minimum of 2 mornings per week. The program os varied and different lessons are facilitated each day of the week. The more frequently your child attends, the more opportunities there will be for learning.

The primary teacher for Prescholar is Ashley Jones. Ashley has the appropriate licensure from the Department of Public Instruction to teach preschool age children.
