Our Philosophy
The primary purpose of Northern Door Children’s Center is to provide high-quality child care services for children through a stimulating and accepting environment.
We strive to provide a balanced curriculum with activities and opportunities to enhance and develop each individual child’s physical, social, emotional, creative and intellectual development.
Our Programs

Infant/Toddler Looping Program
AGES SIX WEEKS TO 3 YEARS
Imagine kids having the same teacher and friends for 2.5-3 years – it's not just great for their brains, but when it's time for Preschool/3K, our Looping teachers make sure they're all set for the next adventure!

Prescholar/3K
AGES 2-1/2 TO 4 YEARS
Children come together in a mixed age group for one to two years, creating a natural community where they learn from each other. Our play-based program, with hands-on activities, fosters self-directed learning, supported by teachers.

Four-Year-Old Kindergarten (4K)
ALL CHILDREN WHO ARE FOUR BY SEPTEMBER 1 WILL ENTER 4K.
Our 4K program aligns with Wisconsin DPI guidelines, providing 540 hours of instruction. With early literacy, math, science, and social studies, plus 'Handwriting Without Tears,' music, art, and swimming specials, all led by a licensed teacher.

Camp Cool
AGES 5 – 11 YEARS
Gibraltar Area Schools kids in after-school care arrive on the bus for snacks, homework, creative activities, and outdoor play. For summer, kids turning 5-year-olds join Camp Cool with themed fun and off-campus adventures.

Wrap Around Care
After the morning program, kids can stay for 'wrap-around' care with lunch options, rest time, snacks, and an afternoon program. It's a blend of learning, fun activities, and play, indoors or outdoors based on the weather.

Before two of my children diagnosed with autism, they were welcomed, engaged, encouraged and included at NDCC. The teaching and administrative staff fully supported us through the difficult process of diagnoses. Once the children had a diagnosis, the teachers taught my children how to play in spite of their different sensory needs, helped them work through the eating issues that are common to children living with autism and celebrated each hurdle they overcame.

Living in Door County and working in the service industry has its challenges especially because we are in a seasonal destination area. My work hours however, aren’t always ideal when raising a child. NDCC has been a tremendous help with their flexibility and support of my work. I feel so lucky that I have this team of teachers and administrators to support me as a working, single parent and to offer my child such an excellent education.

The teachers at the NDCC are specialists who are highly trained in the science of early childhood education. Their learning plans and routines create a thriving environment, allowing for the maximum development in brain and body during these first, most critical years in their young lives. Every day our son walks into his classroom, waves goodbye and starts his day in the place he feels safe, comfortable and happy.

NDCC is so much more than a typical child care center. My children learned everything from sign language, Spanish, colors, and shapes, to how to interact with others in our world. In addition, it was a completely inclusive experience where we feel a part of an extended family, working together to raise our children to be kind, productive adults with a real love for learning. I cannot imagine a better place for my children to be educated in their younger years.

The teachers and staff at NDCC create a loving and educational environment where our children aren't just students, but part of an extended family. NDCC has made it possible for both my husband and I to have jobs and remain in Door County. Even more important, the Center has given our son, an only child, much needed socialization and the skills needed to prepare as he goes on in his education.

The quality of staff at NDCC is remarkable. Every morning, we are greeted like it's the first day of school, with excitement and energy. The teachers prioritize communication and are thoughtful in their actions and words with the students.

Self-employment means our income sometimes fluctuates. The Children’s Center scholarship program has guaranteed that our son is able to attend each day regardless of our income situation. There is definitely a dearth of accessible childcare in Door County. What we have in NDCC is a GIFT! The support of the community and the Center’s scholarship program allows our son to benefit from the highest level of early education and care.
